THE FULL MOON IN AQUARIUS

The full moon in Aquarius on July 23rd-24th, 2021 is a potent invitation to show up as a teammate, ally, or friend – for ourselves, and our tribes. It’s time to radically transform the ego and shift the ‘me first’ mentality, to focusing on how we’re showing up for the people in our inner circles, and how we function as a unit. This requires willingness to dive deep, own our shadows, and reconcile any differences. It’s time to get honest and authentic about what isn’t working, and release the way we’ve traditionally done things in the past so we can look to the future.

The sun just entered Leo and will make an opposition to Pluto retrograde, lord of death and rebirth, on the night of the full moon. This is an invitation to reflect on our shadows and their impact on our lives, as well as the lives of others. When Leo is at its best, this archetype is confident, generous, and sovereign. However, at its worst, Leo is selfish, attention-seeking, and egocentric. Shadow typically results from insecurity and lack of confidence. This directly impacts the quality of our lives and inevitably trickles down into our social circles.

While Leo focuses on the individual, Aquarius is all about the collective. Aquarius concerns itself with the future vision, welcoming all kinds of individuals to contribute their unique gifts to a bigger cause. This requires us to assess what we are bringing to the table, and how we are showing up as an individual for our team (maybe this is a partner, friendship, or group of people). Aquarius is the humanitarian, and its intention is to accept and celebrate everyone’s unique approach to life. Though you may not see things the same way as someone else, this is an invitation to be mindful of initiating conflict due to a need for power or control. Saturn retrograde asks us to reflect on what it would look like to take a wise and mature approach. Our gifts and talents are valuable, but we also must be willing to acknowledge our limitations and shortcomings.

The chart of the full moon contains many oppositions, inviting us to find common ground and meet in the middle (with people, and finding balance in shadow work, and keeping things light-hearted). The vision we’re working towards is more important than a fragile ego. Aquarius honors that everyone has their own brand of genius, and just because someone’s way of doing things differs from your own, it doesn’t make it wrong. In fact, a different perspective can add to the future vision in a way you may have not considered. Approaching things from a different lens, even if it feels a bit odd or eccentric, can lead to the opening of avenues you weren’t even aware of. Be open-minded, as this can lead to evolution and growth.

Pluto retrograde is connected to the energy of the phoenix, as it paves the way for inner transformation. We are being asked to explore what’s beneath the surface in the underworld of the psyche, and meet any resistance to trying something new and staying open. Pluto conjunct the full moon in Aquarius is a major invitation to illuminate authentic truth and allow it to inform you of what needs to change. This is the only way to rebuild a foundation upon which something new can emerge. Mercury in Cancer makes an opposition to Pluto, reminding us to meet these shadows with words of motherly love, compassion, and support. Be gentle around your transformation, and any emotional intensity that surfaces. Rising from the ashes is no easy feat, and it warrants mindfulness around self-talk.
